Benchmark - Cote d'Azur Shooting

Knapp 18 Monate nach Präsentation des Prototypen der BENCHMARK, hatten wir vergangene Woche das finale Fotoshooting mit unserem neuen Flaggschiff. Das Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat an der Küste zwischen Nizza und Monte-Carlo bot die perfekte Kulisse für diese einmaligen Aufnahmen, die Charly Castro für uns gemacht hat. Hotelmanager, Angestellte und Gäste standen mit glänzenden Augen und großen Augen um das Bike. Wir haben Jay Kay von Jamiroquai getroffen, der für ein Foto posierte, bevor er sich in einem legendären Aston Martin Volante auf den Weg nach Cannes gemacht hat. Wetter und Lichtverhältnisse waren optimal. Und nach dem Shooting sind wir dann nach Monte Carlo gefahren und haben ein paar Runden auf der Formel1-Rennstrecke gedreht - bis uns die Ordnungshüter dann des Platzes verwiesen haben... :-))

Nachdem die BENCHMARK nun rund 500 km gelaufen ist, können wir uns vor Begeisterung kaum beruhigen: das Bike ist der Hammer, der Motor (hat übrigens auf dem Prüfstand knapp 130 PS gebracht) hat Power über den gesamten Drehzahlbereich und das gesamte Fahrverhalten profitiert von Marcus´ konsequenter Leichtbaukonstruktion, seien es die Carbonräder von BST, die Kohlenstofffaser-Keramik-Bremsscheiben, die FG900-Gabel von Öhlins oder die zahlreichen Alu- oder Titanteile. In Summe wiegt dieses Bike fast 80 kg weniger, als unsere herkömmlichen Dragstyler - und in Verbindung mit dem gerade mal 200er Hinterrad (anstelle des 280ers) ermöglicht das eine Kurvenhatz, die bislang für ein Custombike in das Reich der Träume gehörte. Schweren Herzens sind wir nun zurück von der Cote d´Azur und werden das Bike noch diese Woche unserem Kunden übergeben. Wer sein solches Bike sein Eigen nennen möchte, kann es zum Preis ab EUR 119.000,- bestellen und nach knapp einem Jahr Lieferzeit ebenfalls über die Straße heizen.

Almost 18 months after the first presentation of the prototype of the BENCHMARK we had the final photoshooting last week with our new flagship. The Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat at the coast in between Nizza and Monte-Carlo was the perfect setting for these unique pictures, that were taken by Charly Castro. Managing Director, employees and guests stood still with shining eyes and open mouth in front of the bike. We met Jay Kay from Jamiroquai and made a picture before he drove back to Cannes in his legendary Aston Martin Volante. Weather as well as lighting conditions were great.  And right after the shooting we drove to Monte-Carlo and tested the Formula1-racetrack with the bike - until the police stopped us... :-)) 

After driving the BENCHMARK for about 500 km we are all full of enthusiasm: the bike is amazing, the engine with more than 130 hp on the test block is pure power among the whole speed range. Thanks to Marcus always insisting to build leight-weight the handling of the bike is unbelievable for a custombike - the carbon wheels from BST, the carbon fibre-ceramic-brake discs, the FG900-front end from Öhlins or the numerous parts made out of aluminium or titanium. Overall the bike has about 80kg less than a regular Dragstyle-bike - together with the thin 200 rear wheel (instead of 280) you can drive curves real sharp and fast. Reluctantly we are back from the Cote d´Azur and deliver the bike to his owner during this week. If you want to call something like the BENCHMARK your own, don´t hesitate to order one - price is from EUR 119.000,-; delivery time is about 12 months.

Behind the scenes - BENCHMARK Cote d´Azur-Tour

Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Nizza, Monte Carlo - wir lassen keinen Hotspot aus auf unserer Cote d´Azur-Tour mit der BENCHMARK. Die letzten Probefahrten vor der Auslieferung an den Kunden verlaufen bilderbuchmäßig. Das Bike ist der Hammer - der 124er S&S-Motor ist nun perfekt auf unsere neue AKRAPOVIC-Auspuffanlage abgestimmt. Der Sound ist tief und sonor und findet selbst vor den strengen Augen und Ohren der französischen Polizei Gnade.   

Egal, wo wir Pause machen, sind wir umzingelt von Schaulustigen und Fans. Speziell in Monte-Carlo haben wir - wenige Tage vor dem Formel1-Rennen - zahlreiche neugierige Augenpaare auf der BENCHMARK und Fragen über Fragen zu den Leistungswerten des Bikes oder zu speziellen Teilen wie den Carbonrädern, den Keramik-Bremsscheiben oder der Titan-Auspuffanlage. 

Die Rennteams stehen am Rand der Strecke, schauen zu, wie wir unsere Runden entlang der Formel1-Strecke drehen und winken uns zu oder zücken ihre Kameras - es ist unglaublich - selbst bei bekennenden Motorradmuffeln erzeugt der Anblick der BENCHMARK glänzende Augen und Bewunderung.

Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Nizza, Monte Carlo - we are not missing one of the Hot Spots along the Cote d´Azur on our tour with the BENCHMARK. The final testdrives before delivery to the client are running great. The bike is amazing - now the S&S-engine runs perfect with the AKRAPOVIC exhaust system - the sound is deep and sonor - and even if the french police is watching, they let us drive...

Whereever we take a brake there are people around us within seconds, watching the bike, taking pictures. Especially in Minte Carlo, just a couple of days before the Formula1 race, poeple are asking questions about the engine, the power or to special parts like the titanum exhaust system or the carbon wheels. 

While driving along the race track in Monte Carlo the guys from the racing teams are showing thumbs up or taking pictures. It´s unbelievable. Even if people are not in motorcycles they stop and watch and are excited about the look of the bike. 

Met Jay Kay from Jamiroquai

Während unserem BENCHMARK-Shooting im Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat hoch auf den Klippen zwischen Nizza und Monte Carlo trafen wir gestern Jay Kay, den Lead Sänger der britischen Acid-Jazz-Band Jamiroquai, bekannt für seinen exquisiten Autogeschmack. Sein Gefährt: ein Aston Martin Short Chassis Volante aus dem Jahr 1965 in "Ohne-Worte-Show-Condition". Von diesem Fahrzeug wurden nur 37 Exemplare gebaut - und ich habe noch keins in so einem perfekten Zustand gesehen (schon gar nicht auf der Straße...)! Auch wenn Jay Kay mehr auf Autos steht, begeisterte er sich für die BENCHMARK und die dahinter stehende Idee, Unikate auf zwei Rädern zu bauen, die Ausdruck der Persönlichkeit Ihrer Besitzer sind! Wir verabschiedeten uns mit dem gegenseitigen Wunsch für eine tolle Tour entlang der Küste - obgleich in verschiedene Richtungen, denn ich habe mich auf den Weg nach Monaco gemacht und Jay Kay Richtung Cannes.

Das 5-Sterne-Luxus-Hotel inmitten eines 7 Hektar großen mediterranen Garten ist das Domizil zahlreicher Stars und VIP´s aus der Mode, dem Showbusiness und dem Rennsport.
Ein schöner Ort für das Foto-Shooting mit unserem neuen Spitzenmodell, der BENCHMARK. Wir danken dem Manager des Grand Hotels für den freundlichen Empfang und den hervorragenden Service. Seid gespannt auf die kommenden Fotos des BENCHMARK von unserem Fotokünstler Charly Castro.

While our BENCHMARK shooting at the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat high above the cliffs between Nice and Monte Carlo we met Jay Kay, lead singer of the British Acid-Jazz-Band Jamiroquai, who is known for his exquisite taste in cars. His ride: an Aston Martin Short Chassis Volante from the year 1965 in perfect condition. Limited to 37 cars worldwide - and I have never seen one in such a great condition (and much less on the road)! Although Jay Kay is more of a automotive enthusiast he got excited about the BENCHMARK and the idea behind this bike to build unique specimen on two wheels which express the personality of its owner! We said goodbye with the mutual desire for a great tour along the coast - even though in different directions because I headed to Monaco and Jay Kay to Cannes.

The five star hotel in the middle of a 7 hectare big Mediterranean garden is the domicile of many stars and VIPs known from fashion, showbiz and racing.

WATCH OUT: BENCHMARK on Tour an der Côte d'Azur
Vom 18. bis 24. Mai ist die BENCHMARK zur finalen Probefahrt an der Côte d'Azur unterwegs: Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Nizza und Monaco heißen die Stationen auf der Route.
Also wenn ihr zufällig gerade in der Gegend unterwegs seid, haltet die Augen offen - vielleicht sehen wir uns im Hotel Martinez in Cannes oder am Nikki Beach in Saint-Tropez. Am 22. Mai sind wir jedenfalls im Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat für das aktuelle Fotoshooting der BENCHMARK mit Charly Castro Photography. Wir sehen uns!

Marcus Walz baute den HARDCORE BOBBA in 2007, fuhr ihn selbst und hat ihn 2010 an unseren belgischen Händler verkauft, der ihn bis heute auch selbst gefahren hat. This is it: the Original HARDCORE BOBBA from 2007. Made by Marcus Walz himself and driven by him as well (for sure not very often).
